A jury has convicted a Michigan lawyer who had his client, a jewelry store owner, murdered as part of a scheme to take millions of dollars in trust fund money.

Marco Bisbikis39 years old, and Roy Larry46, were found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder and two counts of felony firearm in the death of Dan Hutchinson47 years old, prosecutors announced in a press release.

“The evidence revealed an elaborate and shocking sequence of events that ultimately led to the murder of Dan Hutchison and the attempted murder of Marisa Hutchinson“said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.

“This was a horrible and tragic crime, and I hope that today’s verdict brings some peace to Dan Hutchinson’s family and loved ones,” he added.

Bisbikis was Hutchinson’s attorney and was included in his will. Subsequently hired Larry to kill his client and his wife for millions of dollars in his trustprosecutors said.

The murder occurred on June 1, 2022, when Larry rode an electric bike alongside Hutchinson’s truck on Greenfield Road as the victim was leaving his jewelry store. He fired 14 bullets into the truck before driving off and was quickly arrested.

Hutchinson died and his wife miraculously survived. She testified at trial about creating her will weeks before her husband was murdered, Detroit’s Fox affiliate WJBK reported.

“We trusted that he (Bisbikis) knew our wishes,” he told the court.

When the Hutchinsons put money into a trust in 2022, Bisbikis, unbeknownst to them, had placed himself as third trustee. Marisa Hutchinson said she didn’t know he had named himself administrator and that she had just signed the papers where Bisbikis told them to do it because she trusted him.

While Bisbikis did not pull the trigger, he set up the murder, Deputy Prosecutor John Skrzynski said during closing arguments. The objective was to kill both Hutchinson and his wife Marisa.so that Bisbikis could access his trust, which would come into his possession if they both died, Skrzynski said.

In addition to Bisbikis and Larry, two other people, including Roy’s cousin Larry, were charged in the case. The men pleaded guilty to related charges in exchange for agreeing to testify for the prosecution.

The sentencing hearing for Marco Bisbikis and Roy Larry is scheduled for June 12, and both face a sentence of life in prison.
