Call of Duty reveals an unexpected collaboration with the Gundam franchise

The successful first-person shooter video game franchise, Call of Duty, has completely changed since the introduction of Warzone, its popular Battle Royale mode. Nowadays, it is not strange to see them make collaborations with countless intellectual properties that can come from the world of cinema, television or other video games. And the new collaboration that Activision Blizzard just announced took everyone by surprise.

Very soon, Call of Duty will join forces with Gundam

This event was announced through the official Twitter account of the video game, with a tweet that said: «It is time for the shadows to rise. Gundam comes to Call of Duty in Season Four ». This text was accompanied by a short video of a Japanese-themed map where you can see the shadow of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam from the original series: Mobile Suit Gundam. A few hours later, this same Twitter account revealed what specific objects we can expect in this collaboration.

The Gundam event in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone will bring with it 3 special operator skins that will be based on 3 iconic models from different stages of the franchise: RX-78-2 Gundam from the original series (and the most iconic of all), MS-06S Zaku IIalso from the original series, and XVX-016 Gundam Aerial from the most recent series, Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury. While that was all they announced for now, we wouldn’t be surprised if they include more Gundam skins, and maybe even some combat items themed to this legendary mecha franchise.

At first glance, a crossover between Call of Duty (A hyper-realistic war video game franchise from the United States) and gundam (A giant mecha anime franchise from Japan) may seem strange and incompatible, but the truth is that these two intellectual properties have more in common than you think, since they both have a focus on themes of war and geopolitical conflict. And although the Gundam themselves may be too big to enter the Call of Duty battlefield, this video game has already made collaborations with godzilla and king kong, which introduced items based on both giant monsters. So that shouldn’t present a problem.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone Season 4 begins next May 29, so you won’t have to wait much longer. However, this does not mean that the Gundam skins will be added that same day, as they may appear in the store some time later. This Activision Blizzard FPS franchise doesn’t often collaborate with iconic anime like Gundam, so we hope this is just the beginning of a new wave of events based on Japanese intellectual properties. Which one would you like to see in the game?
