This Friday the last matches of the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup were played. The Uruguayan team was eliminated despite having defeated Ghana by a score of 0-2. At the end of the game, striker Edinson Cavani blew up the VAR monitor that was located at the foot of the field.

Several videos on social networks show that the Uruguayan defender José María Giménez attacked the FIFA competitions director with an elbow to the neck.

In the images you can see the Atlético de Madrid central defender out of control wanting to face the arbitration team while being supported by several of his teammates. A shot captured when Giménez tried to get away from those who grabbed him and gave the blow, apparently involuntary.

Another recording shows the central defender hurling insults into the air and accusing organizers of corruption. “A bunch of thieves, these sons of bitches are a bunch of thieves.” “Yes, record your mother’s conc ***,” he brandished before one of the cameras.

That was not the only episode of violence and frustration that occurred at the end of the engagement. Edinson Cavani hit the VAR monitor and completely knocked him down as he made his way to the changing rooms.

Uruguay went within a few minutes from qualifying for the round of 16 in second place, to being knocked out of Group H due to South Korea’s 91st-minute goal against Portugal.

The Asians won their match 2-1 against the Portuguese and forced the Charrúas to score a third goal against Ghana, which ultimately did not happen. The commitment of the South Americans had several controversies and was marked by arbitration decisions questioned by many. One of them was a penalty for Cavani already in added time that was not indicated by the main judge.
