Emma Coronel will soon be released from prison; The wife of “El Chapo” is in a Texas jail

Emma Coronel, the wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, is about to be released from prison. That could happen between May and September of this year.

At the beginning of 2022, confusion arose about a reduction in sentence for Colonel, but his lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman confirmed to this newspaper that his client’s jail time was determined by benefits to federal prisoners.

“The 36-month sentence means that he must serve 30.6 months”then exposed Lichtman.

The defender clarified that there is no reduction in the sentence, after the Bureau of Prisons (BOP, in English) reported that Coronel will be released on September 13, 2023, generating confusion about the time he must serve in a federal prison.

Lichtman added that the wife of “El Chapo” must spend 85% of the time in the FMC Carswell prison, in Fort Worth County, Texas.

“That does not reflect the time in confinement at home… for the last 10%. So he will be released from prison sometime in May 2023,” she stated.

According to the federal prison rules in the United States, cited by the Department of Justice, as of July 1, 1999, “offenders must serve 85% of the sentence.”

If the people with convictions committed their crimes with violence, then the sentence must be completed one hundred percent, which is not the case with Coronel.

Coronel’s sentence was handed down by Judge Rudolph Contreras, of the District of Washington DC, who also determined that once out of prison, the wife of “El Chapo” must let the officer in charge of her case collect her DNA, to probation.

Coronel must reside in an authorized home, in addition to being obliged to find work and work a minimum of 30 hours a week, according to 13 rules of the judicial document of the sentence.

Coronel was arrested in 2021, after she the godfather of her twins, Dámaso López Núñez, alias “El Lic”, affirmed in the trial of “El Chapo” that her comadre helped the plan for her husband to escape through a tunnel from the Altiplano prison in Mexico in 2015.
