In the last weeks, hospitalization of children under 5 years of age not eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the United States it has reached the highest levels since the start of the pandemic.

Data provided by the government indicates that the only age group not eligible to receive any of the vaccine options so far is experiencing a worrying trend.

This indicator highlights how important it is that all those who are eligible to get vaccinated do so, because with this they can protect the minors who are close to them.

This is how it stands out Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As of mid-December, the variant Ómicron began its rapid spread throughout the United States, with a rate of hospitalization among children under 5 years of age over 4 per 100,000 children, above 2.5 per 100,000.

Between children ages 5 to 17, the rate is just 1 in 100,000indicated the CDC based on information from about 250 hospitals in 14 states across the country.

“Pediatric hospitalizations are at their highest rate compared to any previous point in the pandemic.”

Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC.

Between children under 12 and 18 years old, worryingly, just over 50% are vaccinated. Y among those from 5 to 11, only 16% have a complete pattern.

Nevertheless, the hospitalization rate among children and adolescents remains the lowest than any other age group: they are less than 5% of new daily hospital admissions, also according to CDC figures.

They further state that the highest rates of hospitalization of younger children are located in Connecticut, Tennessee, California, Oregon, and especially Georgia.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, for his part, says that many of the children who are in hospitals with covid-19 suffer from other health problems such as diabetes, obesity, or lung disease, which have made them more susceptible to complications from covid.
