In the Liga MX, they still cannot agree on the 20/11 minor rule in the Apertura 2024 tournament – La Opinion

Everything indicates that the obstacles to authorizing the return of the minor rule 11/20 in the MX League, They are only in form and not in substance, the reality is that among the 18 teams of the highest circuit, they do not define whether the implementation of this favorable initiative for the development of young players in our football only has an effect in the regular phase. of the Apertura 2024 tournament or in the Play In and the league.

This decision is what is delaying the presentation of a project that bore many fruits in the 15 years that it was in force in the MX League. from its beginning in 2005 until its cancellation in 2020, arguing that the structural problems generated by the Covid-19 pandemic forced teams to use already experienced players to recover their economies.

As you may remember, a group of First Division teams said they would continue allowing the participation of minor players 11/20 in order to meet the 1,000,000 minutes required of each team, regardless of the number of players that will be used for this task.

Obviously, the application of this rule continues to divide opinions among the 18 teams, as some think that it does not make any sense and that it has been of little use for the development of players in Aztec football. However, elements such as Patricio Araujo and Javier Hernández in Chivas, Luis Ángel Landín in Pachuca, Andrés Guardado in Atlas, Ernesto Serrato in Monterrey, Rogelio Chávez and César Villaluz in Cruz Azul, as well as many others demonstrated the effectiveness of this rule .

Especially since, if the teams did not comply with the established number of minutes, they would risk losing three points in the standings, as happened with Jaguares de Chiapas in the 2005 Apertura tournament. as well as Club San Luis and Querétaro FC in the 2006 Apertura championship, being the only teams that suffered this penalty in the 15 years that said rule was in force.

It should be noted that said application establishes certain parameters to be able to comply with the total number of minutes on the field of play with the use of minors, as in the following case:

According to the information, The minor players who will add minutes will go from the 2002 to 2005 categories, distributed as follows:

– Category 2005 will add 100 percent.

– Category 2004 will add 75 percent.

– Category 2003 will add 50 percent.

– Category 2002 will add 25% percent.

So in the next few hours the project will be presented for the next meeting of the MX League for the approval of the competition regulations and some other aspects within the structural plan that has the new commissioner of Mexican soccer, Juan Carlos “La Bomba” Rodríguez, as is the case with television broadcasting rights.

If the 20/11 minor rule is approved, there will be more options for players like Jesús Orozco from Chivas and Rodrigo Huescas from Cruz Azul to debut and grow in Liga MX. Photo: Etzel Espinosa/Imago7.

If this rule is approved, it would allow the teams to follow the example of Pachuca and Necaxa, in betting on more new blood in the maximum circuit and with which, The only beneficiary will be the Mexican National Team, which is currently undergoing its renewal process.
