The Soccer players of the Iranian National Team did not sing the anthem of their country in protest for the situation of repression in the country and the recent assassination of Mahsa Amini.
The protests of players and fans are directed at the Iranian regime for the murder of Amini, the 22-year-old girl who was detained and mistreated by the police in September for not respecting the Iranian dress code by not wearing the veil properly.
Her murder, accompanied by the violence to which she was subjected and the lies of the Iranian government, has raised the anger of the population, due to the abuse to which women are allegedly subjected. This revolution has also reached the football team, the best platform for the Iranian people to show their frustrations with the regime.
Coach Carlos Queiroz assured that his players “were free” to protest if they wanted and they did so before the initial whistle of the match. While the players were not singing, the Iranian fans responded with applause and cheers for their players.
