Saúl Canelo Álvarez, a Mexican boxer, sparked controversy this weekend after accusing Lionel Messi of allegedly kicking a shirt from the Mexico team that he exchanged with a player after the Group C match.
Thousands of fans and athletes came out to respond to Canelo after the video does not show Messi’s true intention when kicking the shirt. One of them was Sergio “Kun” Agüero, who came out to defend the Argentine and criticize Canelo Álvarez.
The former player from Argentina replied that “he probably doesn’t know about football” and what happens inside a team’s locker room after the game.
“Mr. Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a locker room. The shirts are always on the floor after the games are over due to sweat and then if you see well, he makes the movement to remove the booty and accidentally hits it, “explained the former Argentina striker.
On video, you can see how all the players of the Argentine National Team were celebrating after the victory, something that is normal after an important victory in a World Cup -which meant his rebirth within Qatar 2022.

Cesc Fábregas, Lionel Messi’s ex-partner at FC Barcelona, also came out in defense of the Argentine and responded to the Mexican boxer
“You neither know the person, nor do you understand how a locker room works or what happens after a game. All t-shirts, even the ones we wear ourselves, go on the floor and are washed afterwards. And more when you celebrate an important victory”, explained Fábregas.
