The actor O Yeong-suwho rose to worldwide fame after passing through Squid Game as player 001, has been accused of sexual misconduct in South Korea.
Prosecutors reportedly singled out the veteran actor, 78, of allegedly having improperly touched the body of a woman in 2017.
The woman originally filed a complaint against Yeong-su in December 2021.. While police closed the case last April without charges being filed, it was reopened after the alleged victim called for further investigation.
For his part, O Yeong-su denied all accusations when questioned by prosecutors.
In a statement shared with Korean broadcaster JTBC, the actor said, “I only took her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [la persona] He said he wouldn’t make a fuss about it, but that doesn’t mean he admits the charges.”
After the news broke, reports say the Seoul Ministry of Culture decided to stop airing a government commercial about its regulatory innovation with O Yeong-su.
He started acting in 1967 and is a respected stage actor in South Korea, having appeared in 200 productions, the Telegraph reports.
Yeong-su became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globeas he took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in a television series, series, miniseries or television movie, in the 79th edition of the awards.
He was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards, losing to “Succession” star Matthew MacFadyen.
