A 19 year old studentidentified as Karim C., has been sentenced to $2,000 fine -exempt from compliance if they do not reoffend- for a tweet of racist content uttered against the French international Kylian Mbappéwhom he reproached for having missed a penalty at the European Championship in June 2021.

The Court ruled that the young man has been guilty of provocation to racial hatred and identity theft, since the insulting message was delivered on a false Twitter account and using another netizen’s photo.

That dirty black deserves to be given a hundred lashes and resold in Libya“, was the message of Karim C. that circulated the June 29, 2021a day after Mbappé failed the decisive penalty against Switzerland which precipitated the elimination of France in the round of 16.

The PSG player, very upset by these insults, filed a complaint, while several NGOs against racism filed as a civil accusation once the investigation is opened on June 30, 2021.

That racial insult, along with other similar ones, led Mbappé to consider his presence in the France team, in a crisis that ended up being settled a few months later after the speech by the president of the French Football Federation, Noël Le Graët.

The convicted person, who had no criminal record and lives with his parents in the Paris region, he risked up to a year in prison for his message.

The young man acknowledged being the author of the tweet, although he assured that his objective was not to spread anger and yes “open your eyes” to the problem of racismmaking a “copy and paste” of discussions in private forums of extreme right-wing Internet users.
