Red Bull shows concern for the RB20 of Sergio “Checo” Pérez and Max Verstappen – La Opinion

The Red Bull team has lost a bit of that dominance that it had been showing in recent seasons of Formula 1 and that has been evident in the last races of this 2024 season in which, although Max Verstappen has achieved two victories in the last three races, the distances with its closest pursuers have begun to close.

Against this background, the director of the Austrian team, Christian Horner, acknowledged that the RB20 has not lived up to the demands in this part of the season after a great start in which both Verstappen and Sergio “Checo” Pérez They were achieving very good results. More recently, things have changed, especially for the Mexican.

“The last couple of races have been more hectic for us, but we still managed to win two of the last three”, commented the British manager referring to the Dutchman’s performance. However, in the case of “Checo” Pérez, he has had a couple of consecutive retirements, which has meant a setback for Red Bull.

It must be remembered that the one from Guadalajara, who recently signed a renewal with Red Bull for the next two seasons, has just suffered a dramatic accident at the Monaco Grand Prix that took him out of the race in the first lap and more recently in Canada as well. He was out of competition due to an incident with another driver after half of the test.

“We made the Pole Position in Imola, and we equaled the Pole time – in Canada – with a car in which both drivers felt their deficiencies. We have to focus a lot on that to see if we can improve because we know that the circuits later in the year, like Singapore and so on, could be a factor.highlighted Christian Horner in statements to RacingNews365.

Finally, the British manager also highlighted how the rest of the teams have been getting closer despite the fact that Max Verstappen has maintained a good performance in the last races with only a sixth place in Monaco. This approach with respect to the rest of the teams is largely due to the decline of “Checo” Pérez.

“Although we have won six of the nine races this season, we are going to have to maintain maximum attention to be able to continue with the difference”said Horner, who has repeatedly let the Mexican know that he needs to stay within the points and fight for the top positions.

The next Formula 1 race will be next weekend in Catalonia where the Spanish Grand Prix will be taking place, where Red Bull will try to re-apply its iron dominance with its two drivers while “Checo” Pérez will seek to resume the path of good results to begin to close the gap in the drivers’ classification.
