Shohei Ohtani declared this Monday in front of the media about his relationship with Ippei Mizuhara and the betting case that became known last Wednesday.

Ohtani stated that he has never bet on baseball or any sport, nor has anyone bet on it. The Dodgers player began by apologizing for the situation.

“I am very sad and surprised that someone I trusted did this,” Ohtani began in the statement to the media.

The Japanese, who signed a $700 million, 10-year contract with the Dodgers, blamed Mizuhara, his translator, for the betting case and also called him a liar.

“I never bet on baseball or any other sport. I have never asked anyone to do that on my behalf. I’ve never been to a betting house. “Ippei has been stealing money from my account and telling lies,” Ohtani detailed.

In recent days, Ippei stated that Shohei Ohtani knew about the debts he owed in the betting case and that he had helped him pay. Later, the same translator and close friend of the player changed his version, saying that Shohei had no knowledge and that he had deceived him.

“I never agreed to settle the debt or make payments to the betting house. What was happening was absurd. and I contacted my representatives at the time,” Ohtani continued.

The Japanese commented that he knew the magnitude of the situation after the meeting he had with the team after the first game of the series and that before that he was not sure what was happening around him.

He also claimed that he did not know about Shohei Ohtani’s addiction.

“I am more than surprised. “It’s really hard to verbalize how I feel right now.”

Shohei Ohtani focused on the season with the Dodgers

After an unusual week for the Japanese slugger, he assured that he is helping and collaborating with all the investigations. In addition, he clarified that he is focused on the season with the Dodgers.

“I really want to focus on the season,” This is how Ohtani’s press conference ended, as he did not accept questions from the media.

The Dodgers will debut this Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium.

The slugger played this Sunday in the exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angels.
