Group E of the Qatar 2022 World Cup is on fire after the one-goal tie between Spain and Germany at the Al Bayt Stadium in a match that was hotly contested between the squads. This result leaves the Bavarians alive in their aspirations to qualify for the round of 16.
Germany accumulates three consecutive games in which they do not know the victory in the World Cup. The commitment had dangerous actions from the first moment. In minute 7 Dani Olmo crashed a ball into the ball.
Hansi Flick’s team managed to establish themselves in the match and match their actions with some attacking chances such as Antonio Rüdiger’s at 39′ when he scored with a header after a lateral free kick, but which the new offside technology would declare invalid.
Spain dominated 69% possession of the ball and finished off five chances in the first half against the three chances of the Germans. Shortly after the start of the second half, Luis Enrique decided to take out Ferrán Torres to bring on Álvaro Morata.
The movement would come out round, because at 62′ the striker scored the Spanish goal after a play in which Dani Olmo opened the field on the left and Jordi Alba launched a creeping center that would end up specifying the number 7.
However, the Spanish goal caused the Germans to go all out on offense, condemning ‘La Roja’ to play the counterattack. The attacks of the Bavarians would be rewarded in the 83rd minute when a combination of passes in the area left Niclas Füllkrug facing the goal, who shot Unai Simón.
With this result, Group E is in a fairly tight scenario. Spain leads the classification with four points. They are followed by Japan and Costa Rica with three and Germany at the bottom with one unit. However, those led by Hansi Flick have options to qualify if they beat Costa Rica in the last match and the Iberians do their own against the Japanese.
The last time Germany won a World Cup match was on June 23 in Russia 2018, 2-1 against Sweden. They have since lost to Mexico, South Korea and Japan.
