This Friday the last matches of the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup were played. The Brazilian team was defeated by its counterpart from Cameroon in a disputed match that took place at the Lusail Stadium. Despite the result, the ‘Canarinha’ advanced as leader to the round of 16 of the tournament and will face South Korea.

An aerial play in the 93rd minute headed by Vincent Aboubakar unlocked the scoring for the African team that took the victorybut could not advance to the round due to Switzerland’s victory against Serbia.

Shortly after getting the goal that awarded the three points and stole Brazil’s unbeaten record, the former Porto player was sent off for a double yellow card when he took off his shirt in celebration.

Those led by Tite took to the pitch with an eleven full of changes. From the technical direction it was decided to rotate for this match due to the early classification obtained in the second duel against Serbia.

Despite having dominated 69% of possession of the ball and shot at least 10 times in the first half, the match against the Africans became disputed in midfield. The Cameroonian team fought throughout the match to keep the goal clean and try to hurt the South Americans in some offensive transition as it finally happened.

Those coached by Rigobert Song suffered a scandal recently with the departure of their starting goalkeeper André Onana. This Friday, the replacement Devis Epassy was an absolute figure for his nation, saving seven of the 21 shots in total made by the Brazilians.

The five-time World Champion qualified as the leader of her group with six units. Switzerland advanced in second place. Now, the ‘Verdeamarela’ will face off against South Korea next Monday.

Brazil was the only team with a real chance of finishing the group stage with a perfect score, something that ultimately did not happen. For the first time since the 1994 World Cup in the United States, the regular round of the top football event ends without any country with three victories.
