The French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire criticized Kylian Mbappé on Tuesday for his laughter over the controversy of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) traveling by plane and stressed that everyone must take climate change seriously.”

Le Maire, in an interview with the BFMTV channel, referred to the moment that has heated up social networks in recent hours during the press conference on Monday in which he appeared Mbappé accompanying PSG coach Christophe Galtierin which both they made fun of the debate about their air travel.

The minister, who acknowledged on the one hand that he adores the young French striker, added that “It was the most inopportune time to laugh”. “I think we all have to take climate change seriously.”

Galtier and Mbappé mocked the suggestion of a director of the French railway company SNCF to use the train instead of the plane to go to Nantes, as they did last weekend for their league match, in a journey of less than 400 kilometers.

The coach responded with irony to a question on this matter that was put to him and explained that they had “talked with the company that organizes our trips.” “We are seeing if we can go by sailing car.” Le Maire replied that such irony “is misplaced.”

The minister, although he did not declare himself closed to limiting the use of private flights with regulations, insisted on his position that “The challenge (of climate change) exceeds the issue of private planes and swimming pools.” In his opinion, “we cannot remain in the symbols”.

Before the head of Economy, Galtier had already been the target of criticism from other members of the Government, such as the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who told him on her Twitter account that she normally gives “most pertinent answers” and that they have to talk about their controversial words.

The mayor of the French capital, Anne Hidalgo, in the same social network also launched a scolding in the direction of Mbappé and Galtier: “Are you guys awake? This is Paris”.
