Volkswagen released a sneak peek of its upcoming electric sedan on Tuesday, ahead of its June 27 debut. Called ID Aero, the initial concept will preview the version of the sedan designed for China.although Volkswagen confirmed that a variant of this EV will also be sold in Europe and North America.
The VW Aero will be based on the ID.4 platform
The ID Aero is based on the same modular electrical architecture that Volkswagen uses for the crossover ID.4 and the ID Buzz van. The ID Aero is 5 meters long, which makes it about 5 inches longer than the Volkswagen Arteon.
An evolution of a concept car
This sedan could be a further evolution of Volkswagen’s hideous ID Vizzion concept that first debuted in 2018. That show car also spawned the ID Space Vizzion electric wagon, which is also said to be destined for production.
The Volkswagen Aero could arrive in the United States in 2023
The road version of the ID Aero sedan is scheduled to go on sale in China in the second half of 2023. It’s also when Volkswagen will likely debut the US/European variant, with production of that sedan expected to begin shortly after at Volkswagen’s Emden, Germany plant.
