Researchers revealed that The Washington state fire chief accused of killing his wife committed the crime on the same day he planned to elope with his lover.

According to the new information, Kevin West, 49, strangled his wife Marcelle “Marcy” West during a fit of rage on the morning of Jan. 8 at his Washougal home, just as he was about to leave with a woman with whom he had an on-and-off affair for at least two decades.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department battalion chief, who was arrested Friday after a two-month investigation, told first responders at the time that Marcy West was suffering a seizure, despite having no history of the medical episode. the police reported.

But investigators quickly became suspicious after noticing the 48-year-old woman’s neck was covered in “indications of trauma,” and after receiving calls from concerned family and friends.

“In the following days, several people contacted local authorities with concerns about possible problems in Kevin and Marcy’s relationship and with concerns that his death may not have been natural,” the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said. in a Press release.

“Through their investigation, detectives discovered that Kevin and Marcy were experiencing marital and financial problems. “Based on a comparison of interviews with Kevin and evidence found at the home and contained on Kevin and Marcy’s cell phones, it appears that Kevin had given detectives conflicting statements,” authorities said.

When investigators arrived at West’s home to question him on January 31, they found him having drinks with his lover in the garage.according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Columbian.

The couple’s torrid affair allegedly began in 2004, when the woman was working at the fire department as a volunteer, and continued on and off for the next two decades.

Marcy West knew nothing about the affair, West told investigators, adding that he had “no future plans” to leave her, a statement detectives found to be a lie.

Just a few days before the murder, West texted his lover’s mother and described his plans to move out on January 8.stating that it would be “a great week to celebrate.”

Detectives also found two love letters the alleged killer had written to the woman indicating he planned to leave Marcy for her.

“2024 will be our year. We will be together celebrating each day with love and understanding of what it means for you and me to be together. Our story will ring loud in the New Year for all to hear!,” she wrote, according to the affidavit.

West was arrested just two days after it was determined that The official cause of his wife’s death was homicide by asphyxiation with blunt force trauma to the neck.

The fallen firefighter denied any involvement in his wife’s murder. “I spent my entire life helping and saving people. “I never put my hands on my wife,” he said, according to the affidavit.

West, who worked at the Camas-Washougal Fire Department for 22 years, is now on unpaid leave. He was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1.5 million bail.
