It’s been eight long months since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony, after remaining silent and low profile, Smith reappeared in public, next to his wife, Jada Pinkett, on the red carpet of his film ‘Emancipation’, in which he stars.
The actor, who won the Oscar, was not only accompanied by his wife, but also by his children with whom he posed for the cameras at the Village Regency Theater in Los Angeles. Everyone was happy for the premiere.
A week ago, Will began the promotion stage of ‘Emancipation’ in different media, in the spaces in which he has given interviews, he has been questioned about the subject of the slap that Rock gave him.
The 54-year-old actor, in practically all the spaces to which he has gone, indicated that he will respect the decision of the people if he does not want to see him back in movie theaters, but he also fears that the public reject his new film due to what happened in March.
“The people on this team have done one of the best jobs of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions will not penalize my team. At this point, that is what I am working for, ”he declared last week.
‘Emancipation’ addresses the issue of the enslavement of African Americans in the United States, particularly in Louisiana. The critics have received this tape in a good way, so it would not be ruled out that it will receive decorations.
The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, will premiere on December 9 on Apple TV+, so it automatically becomes a candidate for the 95th edition of the Oscars, which will take place in 2023.
Will’s performance in this film could lead him to be nominated for several awards, despite this possibility, the protagonist knows that he is prohibited from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years.
Despite the personal adversities the actor has faced throughout the year, this film is his first major film release after what happened at the Oscars.
