With Gimme Tha Power by Molotov, they support Marea Rosa in Spain and unleash mockery

Yesterday the march of the Pink Tidea demonstration in support of Xochitl Galvez and Santiago Taboadacandidates of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition for the presidency of the Republic and the head of government.

The movement of the Pink Tide not only grouped in the Zócalo of Mexico City, but also was replicated in various states and even countries that manifested support towards the coalition PRI, PAN and PRD.

One of the countries that joined theto Marea Rosa was Spainwhere a Mexican demonstrated support for Xóchitl Gálvez with the song Gimme Tha Power by Molotov.

Why did support for the Pink Tide with Molotov’s song spark mockery?

The clip of the Mexican who from Spain supported the Marea Rosa unleashed ridicule because the song Gimme Tha Power was written by Molotov against the PRI, party that remained in power for 60 years.

The song was written in 1990 in the form of criticism of the authoritarianism of the PRI and all inequalities generated by their governments, since the lyrics have verses like “we must root out the problem and change the government of our country”.

Given this, criticism of the proposal was immediate, as some people claimed that the video gave them “other people’s shame.” Or, that the song “Molotov composed it against the PRI, and this ruco marching in favor of the PRI.”

Other criticisms were “that someone should let them know that Molotov dedicated it precisely to them.”

It is not the first time that Xóchitl Gálvez has been linked to Molotov

In March, Xóchitl Gálvez assured that Molotov wrote a song for him for his candidacy for the Hidalgo government in 2010, because the verses are “here he comes, here he comes, here comes Xóchitl”, “yes, no, how the hell no”.

However, Molotov quickly disassociated himself from supporting the candidate ensuring that “in congruence with the mystique and philosophy of the band, Molotov has never supported, does not support and will never support any candidate for popular election.”
