Morocco would give one of the many surprises of this World Cup in Qatar 2022 this Sunday by beating its Belgian counterpart 0-2. However, a strange episode would happen when Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bono, sang the anthem and was later substituted. The goalkeeper in question explained hours later what happened.

In an interview for the radio program in Spain ‘El Partidazo de Cope’, the Sevilla FC player revealed that he suffered an injury against Croatia and in his attempt to play against Belgium, he decided to infiltrate, but the treatment generated an adverse reaction.

“I went in to warm up and decided that I would infiltrate just before the game so that the effect could last for the hour and a half of the match, but I got dizzy 5 or 10 minutes after the injection,” he said.

“I was in the tunnel, I felt very strange, but I couldn’t go back. I asked the coach if it was too late to change or not and I tell him that the important thing was not to lose the changes, ”he explained.

Shortly after, the goalkeeper decided to jump onto the grass as a test to see if he could overcome the symptoms of discomfort. “I endured making quick movements. I was in a situation of not knowing what is happening or knowing how to act. I say let’s see if I’m going to go in and it goes away or if I have to ask for the change ”.

It was just at that moment that the particular event that triggered the viral images occurred. “The change had to occur without being able to do anything to prevent it.”

“When the anthem ends, the coach comes and says that he is going to lose the change. They took me to a room inside and they did all the studies on me, and I stayed there until the game ended,” he said.

In the images prior to his replacement, Bono is seen with his head down, with one of his hands on his knee and the other on his chest while the anthem was sung. Later he was replaced and the Twitter account of the Moroccan team announced the change, but did not report the causes.

After this unusual situation, Morocco played the match at the Al Thumama Stadium and defeated Belgium 0-2 thanks to goals from Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal in the second half.

Now the African team is the leader of Group F with four units tied with Croatia. They are followed by Belgium with three points and Canada, already eliminated and still without a score.
