América, after 24 years, plays again on Friday: now vs. Atlético de San Luis on date 13 of Clausura 2024 – La Opinion

After 24 years, the Águilas del América will once again play a Liga MX match on Friday, just as they will do the day before the team led by Brazilian André Jardine against Atlético de San Luis in the activity on date 13, with the firm intention of not losing sight of the leadership held by the Rayados de Monterrey in the current Clausura 2024 tournament.

The American team had played its last game on a Friday of the League tournament 24 years ago on matchday 12 of the summer 2000 championship, when they beat Santos Laguna 6-1 at the Azteca Stadium and where Carlos Hermosillo, the Argentine José Luis Calderón, the Chilean Fabián Estay, Braulio Luna and Joel Sánchez, while Edson Alvarado of honor scored for the Laguna team.

Now, almost two and a half decades later, América scheduled a League match on an unusual date, but where they will try to take advantage of the fact that Atlético de San Luis arrives at this match on matchday 13 of the current Liga MX championship with a significant deficit of five consecutive defeats in someone else’s yard.

These setbacks were against Monterrey 3-1 on matchday 1, Cruz Azul 3-0 on matchday 6, León 1-0 on matchday 8, Querétaro 4-1 on matchday 9 and with Necaxa 3-1 on matchday 11. This indicates that they have scored 14 goals as a visitor and they have only managed to respond with three goals.

These numbers show that the American team has the table set to add the eighth victory of the championship, demonstrating that its tactical scheme is becoming stronger, despite the fact that for this game it will have the losses of several of its stars such as Julián Quiñones, Álvaro Fidalgo and Diego Valdés, who join the departure of the Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez, who emigrated to the Portland Timbers.

However, America has forward Henry Martín in its favor, who is the striker who has done the most damage to the Las Tunas team in recent games with seven goals and now he will want to repeat the same story in a duel that has as its latest precedent, the victories for each of the two sides in the league of the previous tournament, the Apertura 2023 where the Águilas won 0-5 at the Alfonso Lastras, but Brazilian Gustavo Leal’s team responded with a 0-2 at the Azteca.

So by all accounts, things seem interesting in this match that has not been played on a Friday for 24 years.
