América and Cruz Azul seek their 70th and 58th victories in 60 years of a rivalry that has left its mark – La Opinion


While it is true that the history of the rivalry between América and Cruz Azul adopted the nickname “Young Classic” with the 4-1 victory of the Celeste Machine in the final of the 1971-72 season, the antecedents of both teams actually date back to the 1964-65 season when the so-called Águilas defeated the cement workers 1-2 at the December 10 Stadium, the former home of the Cruzazulinos.

For that reason this Saturday night starting at 9 pm Central Mexico (7 pm Pacific/10 pm Eastern), both teams will look for a victory that will help them improve their statistics in the six-decade antagonism that both teams have registered. .

On the one hand, America will seek the 70th victory in all the duels of the different competitions where they have faced off against the Cruzazulinos, while those from La Noria will go for the 58th victory against the so-called Águilas, in the 191st duel that they will hold.

The results that have left their mark

In these 190 games that they have played throughout their history, the following results stand out that have left their mark on both teams both positively and negatively.

On the side of América, the victories on date 38 of the 1981-82 season with a score of 5-0 at the Azteca Stadium with two goals from Héctor Tapia, two more from the Argentine Norberto Outes and the last from Juan Antonio Luna.

As well as in the final of the Clausura 2013 with a 4-2 aggregate score, where Aquivaldo Mosquera and goalkeeper Moisés Muñoz were present, taking the victory out of the bag for the Machine when they were already putting their name on the champion trophy.
