David Benavídez mentions the reason why the organizations do not take away the titles from Canelo Álvarez – La Opinión

David Benavídez, interim 168-pound champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), mentioned that the reason why the organizations do not take away the titles from Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is because they make a lot of money with him and they want to keep him happy.

In an interview for the FreshAndFit podcast, Benavídez assured that he has not received the opportunity for the belt because Canelo Álvarez is the one who has control over those decisions because it generates good profits to the entities that govern boxing and they only obey.

“(Canelo) does not take away his titles because the percentage that the organizations take with him is a lot of bad money. That three percent of Canelo’s $40 million dollars, imagine how much money that is. I don’t want to speak badly about organisms, but that is the cold reality. They make more money with him, and they want to keep him happy.“, said.

“I think I already beat the first four qualifiers, and yet they don’t give me the fight. Canelo is the money man right now. In boxing, each belt implies that you have to pay the three percent fee to the organization. If you take 3 percent of the $40 million (dollars) that Canelo earns, that’s a lot of money. It’s not the same as the three percent they earn from me. “That’s the only reason I think he’s in control, and the only reason they listen to him,” he added.

For three years, Benavídez has been the mandatory challenger and has sought in every possible way to attract the attention of the four-division Mexican champion, but he has never had a response. Although fans and many sports experts would like to see this great fight, the man from Guadalajara has not shown any real interest and the WBC has not enforced the regulations to order the fight either.

After the negotiations between the two failed again, the man from Guadalajara commented that he felt disrespected by the Mexican Monster and assured that the only way he would accept the fight is that your promoter offers you a purse of $150 or $200 million dollars, but otherwise he is not interested in facing the Mexican American. For this reason, Benavídez asked Turki Al-Alshikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority by Royal Decree of Saudi Arabia, for help to make this duel a reality.
