Finally, FIFA made the official announcement of the participating teams so far facing what will be the Club World Cup in its 2025 edition; The international tournament will be taking place in the United States between June 15 and July 13. The tournament will be played under the format of 32 teams from the 6 continental confederations, the first to be held in this way.

How to qualify for the Club World Cup?

The classification method determined that up to now, said appointment has already been classified. a total of 21 clubs and with regard to the American continent, Conmebol already has 3 of the 6 clubs that will be participating in said competition. So far the three teams that have a ticket to the Club World Cup are Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras from Brazil, all champions of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Copa Libertadores, respectively.

The remaining three clubs will be chosen with whoever lifts the trophy in this edition of the Copa Libertadores and the two best positioned in the ranking currently held by Boca Juniors and River Plate of Argentina.

However, it must be clear that the classification system according to the historical ranking It will be changing week after week and it will be based on the performances of the teams that have the possibility of qualifying and will be participating in the upcoming Copa Libertadores. In this case, Boca Juniors, Vélez Sarsfield, and Racing, among others, since they do not play it, they cannot add points for the ranking.

On the other hand, River Plate of Argentina, Olimpia of Paraguay and Nacional of Uruguay, as well as Independiente del Valle of Ecuador, among others, do have the chance.

Xeneize has a total of 71 points, followed by Millonario (70) and Olimpia (57). These three would be entering, with the exception that neither Boca nor Olimpia will be able to score points since they are not competing in the Copa Libertadores. After that, clubs with mathematical chances come to life, such as Nacional (46), Independiente del Valle (42) and Barcelona de Ecuador (41) and Cerro Porteño (40).

The criterion for adding points is three units per game won., one for a tie and another for passing each phase of the tournament. It should also be noted that through this ranking route no other Brazilian team will be able to enter and only the current Copa Libertadores champion will be able to do so, as long as they are neither Flamengo, Fluminense nor Palmeiras, since in that case their place would be freed up.

Quite the opposite would happen if the champion were Talleres, Estudiantes, Rosario Central or San Lorenzo, since it would cover one of the two places that Argentine clubs already have and if that were the case, the one that would enter that place would be River Plate, which is only one point away from Boca Juniors. If River Plate manages to win the continental championship, it would maintain the two extra places for Argentina, so Boca Juniors would benefit and have no problems entering.

What will the classification be like in other confederations?

The classification format will remain the same in the other international confederations, AFC, CAF, Concacaf, OFC and UEFA, and their championships in question such as the UEFA Champions League, the Asian Champions, African Champions, etc. The participating teams will be able to acquire their place as champion and also, according to the classification criteria of said confederation, by ranking.
