The Spanish coach and legend of the Barcelona Football Club, Xavi Hernández finally announced today that he will continue as coach of the Catalan entity until 2025; Hernández spoke at a press conference with the president of the culé entity Joan Laporta about the reasons that led him to change his decision, at the same time that he completely denied the information and rumors that if he had left, he would receive the money of the remainder of his contract.
For his part, Laporta also made it clear from the beginning that he wanted to convince Xavi so that he could continue leading Barcelona until his contract ended in 2025 and he was finally able to get it.
Hernández opened up to the media and fans
“You know that I am a great Barcelona fan and I always try to do the best for the team. The most important thing is to think about the club. When we met with the president, I put my position at his disposal, and I enjoy a lot of trust from the president and the entire board of directors.
“The trust I placed in the president was mutual. We have very good harmony with the sports administration and with the fans. This makes you think again. Thank you for your support on the road and on the field of play. I think that if we manage to correct some details we will be close to achieving great success for the team and all the fans.”
Regarding his decision, the Catalan coach with a past in Qatar football said the following: “It was not an easy decision. In January I conveyed to the president, Deco and the board that it was the best for the club.. Now circumstances have changed. Yesterday we talked about it very directly. I believe that the work is not finished and I am convinced that we can emerge victorious with all the hope in the world.”
“The players believe it and I have changed my mind. It’s a combination of reasons that make me want to continue, especially the trust of the president, Deco and the players. It’s not about money or ego. I saw everyone’s confidence and I feel stronger. “This is the movie.”
In January he had said he was leaving
The official announcement was made today and left behind the statements that surprised the world of football, especially the fans and followers of the Catalan team last January, where Xavi had declared that he would leave the team to reduce the pressures of the himself and always looking for the best for the team he loves.
At the press conference, Hernández referred without hesitation to the motives and reasons. which led him to make the decision to continue with the team until 2025 despite the fact that at the time he also said that he had gone down under no circumstances would he retract his decision to put an end to his time as coach at Barcelona.
Zero regrets on Xavi’s part with this decision
“The decision was the right one because the club needed a change. He conveyed it to the president.. Now it’s wrong because I believe the opposite. The staff gave me their support, in addition to the trust of the president and Deco. It made me rethink it and I have energy to keep going.”
Regarding the information and all the rumors that began to circulate in the media and especially through social networks about Xavi asking for money from his contract in case of dismissal, the former player of the Spanish national team was blunt in his response: “If they said it was to cause harm. If I didn’t continue, I wouldn’t receive a single euro. The president knows it. “The contract money for me was for the next coach.”
Barcelona is now preparing to face next Monday April 29 to Valencia CF in a new LaLiga matchday.
