Happiness overflowed in Mexico with the brilliant performance by Santiago Giménez in the UEFA Europa League. The Mexican marked him two goals against Lazio in Italy and left very good impressions internationally. But not everything is happiness. The former Liga MX footballer would have caused discomfort in his team.
Everything happened with the penalty in favor of Feyenoord and when the game was 4-0 on the scoreboard. Santiago Giménez made a penalty a few minutes after entering the game and, contrary to what they have pre-established in the club, the Mexican decided to kick it over captain Orkun Kökcü. This disobedience did not please the Turkish international.
“We had a little discussion with the first penalty because there is a sheet in the dressing room that says that I am number one (to take penalties)“, the soccer player told ESPN.
As a fact that reaffirms the discontent of “disobedience”, Giménez did not receive much approval from his colleagues after scoring the penalty.
On the other hand, the young Feyenoord player clarified that It’s not about converting the goal or notbut to comply with the rules pre-established by the coach and more coming from a player who only has a couple of months inside the Dutch institution.
“Our striker (Santiago Giménez) chose to make his own decision. I am disappointed because he disobeyed me when I am the captain. I get upset. We know that he can score the penalty, that is not the problem (…) But for me, it was more about our rules and respect between partners“, he concluded.
