America defeated 2-1 to Atlético San Luis, but the loss of striker Illian Hernández added in an Águilas infirmary that has increased in recent weeks.

The azulcrema club suffered the loss of the forward who left the field in the 37th minute with tears. His place was taken by Diego Valdés, who had been recovering from an injury, and was able to contribute with a goal for the victory.

What are America’s casualties?

Hernández’s absence adds to the injuries of Julián Quiñones, Alejandro Zendejas and Álvaro Fidalgo. None of the three were on the substitute bench in the game against San Luis.

Zendejas presents a first degree semitendinosus muscle injury, the same injury that Álvaro Fidalgo suffered in the match against Cruz Azul for the Mexican tournament.

For his part, Julián Quiñones has a muscle injury that he suffered during the Final Four of the Concacaf Nations League against Panama.

Igor Lichnosvsky, Sebastián Cáceres and Brian Rodríguez were not with América either after being with the Chilean and Paraguayan national teams. The players just joined the team and did dosing work.

Brian Rodríguez came on as a substitute in the 68th minute and was the one who sealed the victory for the Águilas with an assist from Henry Martín.

André Jardine praises Malagón and wants to see him on big stages

Brazilian André Jardine, coach of the Mexican soccer champion América, highlighted this Friday the performance of goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón in the 2-1 victory against San Luis on the thirteenth day of Clausura 2024.

“Malagón had a very good performance. He is one of those responsible for us having the best defense, that is how it should be with goalkeepers from the big teams, I don’t get involved in the national team issue, but Malagón looks better and better to assume greater responsibilities,” the coach stressed at the end of the match.

In the duel held at the Azteca Stadium, the Águilas struggled to create scoring chances in the first half. In the second half they scored with the Chilean Diego Valdés and the Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez. San Luis scored thanks to a penalty goal from Franck Boli.

Luis Ángel Malagón stopped at least three shots that threatened his goal.
