Jim Lampley compares David Benavídez’s “epic power” to two heavyweight legends – La Opinion

Jim Lampley, former HBO sportscaster, compared the “epic power” of David Benavídez with that of former world heavyweight champions Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson after last victory over Demetrius Andrade.

In an interview with FightHub TV, Lampley explained that That explosiveness similar to Tyson and Lewis could end Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez’s chin if they were to face each other, so he dares to predict that Benavídez has the possibility of becoming a heavyweight in the future.

“They believe that Benavídez has enough skill to find him, and if Benavídez could get in the ring with Canelo and find him, that chin might not matter because Benavídez has epic power. It has the kind of power that makes you sleep at night thinking, ‘Oh my God, I’m not sure where I’ve seen that before.’ He detonated Demetrius Andrade and blew him up. I thought Andrade, because of the artistry of him, was pretty much knockout-proof,” he said.

“So I left the arena that night thinking: ‘Where have I seen the kind of explosive power that David Benavidez just showed me?’ Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson. Those are the type of fighters that showed that type of power. By the way, I think there is a great possibility that Benavídez will eventually fight at heavyweight in his career and become the first serious contender and great heavyweight among Mexican Americans,” he added.

Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson are heavyweight legends and They were known for finishing their opponents with just one blow.. Between them they had 76 victories by knockout. On the other hand, David Benavídez, with 28 positive results, has sent his opponents to sleep on 24 occasions, a figure that demonstrates the power of the Mexican-American.

Benavídez is currently preparing for dispute the interim light heavyweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15. This fight will mark the debut of the Mexican-American at 175 pounds and his opportunity to be crowned in a new category.
