Requirements to work at NASA in 2024:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Availability to make frequent trips
- Have a professional degree in a STEM academic area (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
- Test Pilot School certificate or equivalent
- Have studied a STEM master’s or doctorate
- Have at least 3 years of work experience or 1,000 hours as a pilot
On the other hand, the US space agency reports that those interested in passing the first filter of experience and studies must be willing to go through a series of tests and exams not only to evaluate their skills and knowledge, but also medical and physical. Some of these include: a drug screening test, thorough criminal background investigation, periodic physical aptitude testing, as well as a medical and psychiatric examination, swimming tests.
