Ryan García tests positive for Ostarine and another illicit substance for his fight against Haney – La Opinion

Just days after shaking the boxing world by beating Devin Haney in New York, Ryan García was shaken this Wednesday when it was reported that he tested positive for two prohibited substances in anti-doping tests for said fight.

ESPN reported that Ryan Garcia tested positive for Ostarine in his urine tests taken the day before the fight against Devin Haney and also on the day of the fight according to a letter sent to the parties involved by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).

García, according to ESPN, also tested positive for 19-Norandrosterone, but this doping has not been confirmed. The fighter has 10 days to request test B.

Ryan García: “I don’t cheat”

“Everyone knows that I don’t make plots,” García said in a video published after hearing the news, claiming that it is all lies. “These are people trying to attack me for some reason… I have never taken steroids in my life… if anything I have taken supplements.”

The news of the alleged doping adds to the series of incidents and setbacks that were part of the fight in Brooklyn: García failed to make the regulation weight by 3.2 pounds and then implied that he did so in a planned way to have an advantage in the ring . In previous weeks, his erratic behavior caused confusion, including videos in which he was seen consuming marijuana.

Garcia, clearly stronger on fight night, sent Haney to the canvas three times and nearly knocked him out. His victory by majority decision is considered one of the biggest upsets in boxing in recent years.

Reactions after Ryan García’s positive test

His promoter, Golden Boy, issued a statement after the report of the failed tests came out: “Ryan has published multiple statements denying knowledge of using any prohibited substance and we believe him. “We are working with his team to determine how these results were obtained.”

Devin Haney’s camp accused Garcia of cheating after the newsincluding a statement from Haney himself.

“I have always been a proponent of fighting clean and this is an example of that. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and based on his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people… You don’t play with boxing,” said the super lightweight world champion.

Ostarine is an androgen (SARM) that helps with muscle growth, loss of body fat, and recovery of muscle mass.
