The coach of Ecuador, the Spanish Félix Sánchezcalled this Tuesday “homogeneous” to Group B of the Copa Américaof which his team is part along with Mexico, Jamaica and Venezuelarivals whom, he said, he has carefully analyzed.
“It is a homogeneous group. We have had time to analyze all the rivals. They are great teams, with high-level players, but we have the confidence to play three good games in the group stage and the hope of moving forward“Sanchez told reporters.
He highlighted the morale level of his players heading into the tournament.
“We have a team and players to face it (the tournament) with enthusiasm and optimism“, he stated.
In relation to the call for the Copa América dispute, he hinted that He will maintain the basis with which he has developed his work since he arrived at the national team in March 2023.
“In our process we have been carrying four goalkeepers (Alexander Domínguez, Hernán Galíndez, Moisés Ramírez and Javier Burrai) and we are going to have to discard one of them,” he added.
He ruled out calling Emelec goalkeeper Pedro Ortiz on this occasion.
“Pedro Ortiz is also a goalkeeper that I am following, but thinking that he may be in future squads. It is a position in which we have a lot and good to choose from,” he expressed.
Sánchez replaced the Argentine Gustavo Alfaro in office.
With the Spanish in the South American qualifiers, Ecuador won three games, drew two, lost one and occupies fifth place in the standings.
Sánchez has maintained the basis with which Ecuador participated in the last World Cup in Qatar and plans to publicize the list of 26 summoned over the next week, to face the friendly matches with Argentina, Bolivia and Honduras that will be played between June 9 and 16.
