The Los Angeles Dodgers fell 4-9 to the New York Mets and added their third defeat in the last five games.

The team couldn’t do much damage to the Mets’ pitching, which is inspired after starting the year 0-5.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched for the Dodgers and pitched 6.0 innings with four runs allowed (one dirty), 7 hits and 9 strikeouts. The Japanese went without a decision and has allowed 3 or more runs in three of his first five starts.

Daniel Hudson took the loss after allowing a two-run homer by Francisco Lindor, which ended up giving the Mets the lead in the seventh inning.

The offensive potholes of Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman

Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman have struggled to contribute to the Dodgers’ offense during the first month of the regular season.

Freeman has just 5 hits in his last 35 at-bats for a .143 average, with no home runs or RBIs.

In four of the last 10 games he has gone hitless. He has three games in a row without hitting hits.

For his part, Shohei Ohtani went 1 for 4 against the Mets in what represented his second hit with men in scoring position.

The Japanese slugger has a .100 batting average with men in scoring position. 2 hits in 20 at-bats and five RBIs, something that has cost the team runs in the first 20 games.

This Friday they only had six hits against the Mets, who hit 14 hits. The Dodgers remain with a record of 12 wins and 10 losses at the beginning of the season.

This Saturday, rookie Gavin Stone will take the mound to face Venezuelan José Buttó, who is coming off two good starts against the Los Angeles team.
