The coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Christophe Galtier, apologized on Tuesday for his joke about the team’s trips in low-polluting means of transport: “It was a bad quality joke.”
In some television statements after his team’s 2-1 victory against Juventus on the first day of the Champions League, Galtier had to respond to the controversy created by his statements about the fact that they could travel in “sailing cars” so as not to pollute.
“Obviously, this is not the time to say these words. Sorry. It was a poor quality joke.” admitted.
“Of course I’m worried about the weather problem and I am aware of our responsibility,” he added.
Galtier recalled that PSG recently made the trip to the northern city of Lille for a league game by bus, which lasted 2:45 hours. “We are aware of the climate challenges. Again, I’m sorry for this joke, but in France you can’t do humor.”.
The PSG coach’s words came after numerous voices, including the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, and the Minister of Sport, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, criticize the attitude of Galtier and his star Kylian Mbappé during a press conference on Monday, in which they laughed out loud, especially the latter, to a question about the possibility of the team making more short trips by train.
The question came after a series of complaints and criticism in France about the use of private planes in times of climate and energy crisis.
The laughter of both Galtier’s joke generated all kinds of criticism on social networks, which was later joined by official figures.
