Yulimar Rojas, the Venezuelan Olympic triple jump champion, will miss Paris 2024 due to injury – La Opinion


One of the main candidates to win a gold medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the great star of the Venezuelan delegation, Yulimar Rojasannounced this Friday that he will miss the Olympic event due to an injury to his left foot.

The current Olympic champion, after her great achievement in the Tokyo 2020 triple jump, issued a statement in which she explained that she was injured during training with a view to the event that will take place between next July and August and where it was a great candidate to revalidate her title.

“With great pain and sadness I want to tell you that, while training, upon receiving a jump, he had intense pain that resulted in an injury to his left Achilles tendon. My heart is broken too and I want to apologize for not being able to represent you at Paris 2024.”the statement said.

The statement published on the social networks of the Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas, which she accompanied with an image of her after the operation she underwent on Thursday in Madrid.

“I am already recovering after my operation that was performed this Thursday with a wonderful team of professionals led by the specialist in traumatology and surgery, Dr. Pedro Guillén who was supported by Dr. Tomás Fernández”said the Venezuelan athlete.

The four-time triple jump world champion, one of the 25 Venezuelan athletes with her ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesassured that he was going through a difficult time from which he hopes to emerge stronger to return to the competition when the time comes.

“They have been very complex hours in which I have questioned and analyzed why all this has happened. The desire to defend my Olympic title excited me enormously, but today I have to stop, understand this, recover and come back with great strength to continue flying together”he added.

Yulimar Rojas, 28, was preparing for her third Olympic Games after her participation in Rio 2016 where she won the silver medal in the triple jump and in Tokyo 2020 where she won gold. Now, the athlete sends good vibes to the rest of the Venezuelan team that will go to Paris 2024.

“I wish great success to our Venezuelan delegation that will go to Paris 2024, I am already very proud of you and my teammates on the track who give their all to also achieve glory. See you soon, with the same dreams and the same desire.”the Venezuelan closed her statement.

Yulimar Rojas achieved the current world record for the triple jump last during her participation in the World Indoor Athletics Championships that took place in Belgrade in March 2022. The Venezuelan, who is part of the FC Barcelona athletics team, achieved a jump of 15.74 to set the new world record.
