The feline club lost the Apertura 2023 final and, despite this recent setback, André-Pierre Gignac acknowledged that he is not looking for revenge.
The Tigres de la UANL have lost a couple of finals with the azulcrema team, one in the Concachampions and another in the Liga MX. The rival has been the same in the club’s recent failures. Nonetheless, Gignac acknowledged that his only objective is to win, regardless of the opponent.
“I’m interested in winning against whoever, I want to win the championship against whoever, whether it’s América, Chivas, Pumas, Cruz Azul, it doesn’t matter.“I always want to win the championship,” said the French striker in an interview with ESPN.
America and Tigres are close at hand
Despite having lost a couple of finals recently, André-Pierre Gignac considers that the scales are balanced. The French scorer remembered the championship that was taken from Club América on its centenary.
The former Olympique Marseille player explained that having won the trophy on its centenary (Apertura 2016), is a blow that matches the two finals lost recently.
“I beat them on their centenary here (University Stadium). It seems to me that America is fine, they won it (Apertura 2023), they deserved it, they had a great tournament but revenge for what? They beat me in a league, one in Concacaf and I beat them in the centenary”he explained.
Despite André-Pierre Gignac’s positive mentality, the truth is that Club América has been superior to its rival in recent years. In fact, Both clubs already faced each other in Clausura 2024. The French attacker can add another defeat to his list after the one his club suffered on March 9 at Estadio Azteca.
With goals from Javairô Dilrosun and Alejandro Zendejas The Azulcremas defeated the Felines 2-0. Robert Dante Siboldi has not been able to find a way back to André Jardine’s approaches.
