British actor Bernard Hillknown for his participation in the films ‘Titanic’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’, died at the age of 79, as confirmed by his agent.

Hill played Captain Edward Smith in the famous film that won the Oscar in 1997 and King Théoden in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.

His first success was in the BBC drama ‘Boys from the Blackstuff’, where he played Yosser Hughes, a memorable character who fought against unemployment in Liverpool.

‘Boys from the Blackstuff’ won a Bafta award for best drama series in 1983, and in 2000 was ranked seventh by the British Film Institute. on the list of best TV shows in history.

Hill had returned to TV with the second season of ‘The Responder’, a BBC drama starring Martin Freeman, which will begin airing this May 5.

Bernard Hill was born on December 17, 1944 in Blackley (northern England), he grew up in a Catholic family of miners and from an early age he was inclined towards dramatic art, which led him to study at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama. He was married to actress Marianna Hill.
