Cade Cowell is one of the most notable signings of Chivas de Guadalajara. Coming from Major League Soccer, the Mexican-American came to Liga MX to demonstrate his unbalance on the sides. Cowell’s adaptation to Mexican soccer has been quite good. “El Vaquero” seeks to adapt on the field and also outside of it.

One of the first criticisms of Cade Cowell’s arrival at Chivas de Guadalajara was his lack of involvement with Mexico. The Sacred Flock only has Mexican footballers in its squad and Cowell still speaks fluent Spanish. However, the young forward does not forget its roots and this transaction has been a good opportunity to reconnect with them.

It’s great, I’m happy, I’m happy that my family feels that way. I couldn’t be more proud to represent both nationalities, Mexican and American, so it’s been great. Obviously, I was born in America (United States) and have lived there all my life, but now I finally got to live a different life here, where my grandfather was bornso I could see a little of what it is like,” Cowell acknowledged in an interview with Chivas.

The language barrier had been an issue in Cowell’s early days with the club. However, the player himself has shown the willingness to learn it and his teammates within the club have helped him with that task. The Mexican-American continues with his adaptation process within the Sacred Flock.

“I think, on the one hand, it gives me something to do here, when I have my classes in Spanish or I’m studying Duolingo. Definitely something that has me a little busy.. And obviously talking to my colleagues is always fun, asking a lot of questions (…) I think it’s okay. I’m definitely improving. Obviously, I’m not close to where I need to be, but that’s okay,” Cowell said.

The change from the United States to Mexico is influenced by several cultural issues of which Cowell needs to adapt. It’s not just about the language, the warmth of the people and the rhythm within the engramado. Gastronomy is also a factor to take into account.but the Mexican-American has adapted very well.

“Before coming here, Pozole is my favorite Mexican dish by far. But there is obviously a lot of delicious food here. I’ve tried a lot of things. I have tried pastor tacos, which I really liked. I have tried a little tongue. It was good. “I liked the pastor tacos the most, but at least I have tried everything, but the pozole is definitely my favorite,” he acknowledged.
