On both TikTok and Instagram, the user @viceestrella.psd has gone viral thanks to his videos where he digitizes Mexico City in a very particular way with a melancholic, gloomy and even terrifying approach.

Who is behind these videos ands Victor Estrella, an Industrial Design student at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) Unidad Azcapotzalco, He told El Sol de México the details of his work and how he plans to develop it in the future.

My interest with this project from the beginning was to be able to give recognition to all the elements that make up my city (signs, landscapes, facades, etc.) because I really like the idea that the environment where I live can be recognized by more people.Star explained.

In her videos, Estrella portrays emblematic buildings in Mexico City such as the Torre Latinoamericana or the Central Library of Ciudad Universitaria. In addition to popular locations such as Oxxo stores or Similar Pharmacies.

“I like to generate a feeling of nostalgia in the people who also live here, to see their streets, their subways, their monuments, represented in this fun way.”

Something that has made the work of @viceestrella.psdis the complementation of emblematic places of the city, melancholy and terrifying characters from Mexican myths such as Charro Negro and La Planchada, which generates a sense of belonging and shows CDMX in a quite peculiar way.

In their videos you can see everything from the classic vochos taxis to products such as geese, potatoes, Maruchan soups, etc., all with their old presentation to generate a nostalgic feeling.

The 26-year-old student from the UAM Azcapotzalco assured that for now there are only videos from the capital, however, he has plans to make other videos from more states of the Republic and he is not the only one.

In relation to bringing these animations and models to a real video game, it is something that I would like to make a reality, I am in talks with some developers, so it is not off the table, but I need more time to plan everything Estrella finished.
