The incident was recorded on the home security camera. After the dissemination of the material, the candidate defended himself in an interview with the radio station XEVA 91.7, and commented that he felt attacked by the lack of access and that his comment was a response to the heat of the moment.
Mayans explained that the incident occurred in the El Parque subdivision and apologized, although he justified his reaction by considering that the refusal to open the door reflects a lack of interest in community problems, such as flooding.
