Carlos Vives remembers with nostalgia that night when he was scheduled to open the concert for Chayanne in Colombia. However, Things didn’t go as planned. Although he had rehearsed with his band and was ready to put on a great show, he was surprised that his equipment was not working properly.
“It was one of my first concerts, when I was starting, Chayanne came to Colombia on tour. My manager at the time brought him on tour and told me to be the opening act!“He said in an interview with HOLA! AMERICAS.
“In the end Chayanne did very well, he had the best teams. When I went to sing it was terrible for us. We didn’t have the local classic. It was in Santa Marta, and it was a terrible tragedy because the lights of Chayanne and its sound were no longer there. Not even her ladder to get on stage! “She added during the conversation.
This experience marked a before and after in the career of Vives, who went through an adverse situation. From that moment on, he dedicated himself to perfecting his art and establishing himself as one of the greats of Latin music, winning numerous awards and recognition from critics and the public.
“Nothing worked and in the end I got off, my cousins and my childhood friends were there. They picked me up and left shouting: ‘We beat Chayanne! We beat Chayanne!’ But we hadn’t won anything.” he added.

Carlos Vive is honored
“I don’t even believe it. I have wanted so much to emulate so many good composers and valued their work so much. I have always had the delicacy to recognize them, and to be here receiving this recognition… I can’t tell you that I dreamed of this because the path of music that I chose forced me to write songs,” the Colombian stated to the aforementioned medium.
Before ending the interview he also took the opportunity to add that: “We found a new path in music. It was traditional, but it didn’t have that form, it was modern, but it came from the traditional. And suddenly I found myself writing songs and collaborating with other people, with old people from when I was starting out, people who motivated me to write and who gave me keys that I never forgot and have always helped me.”
