PSV Eindhoven made a scandalous rout of Heerenveen with 8-0 and touched their twenty-second Dutch League title. The team will have to wait until this weekend for Feyenoord’s victory which postponed its victory at the Go Ahead Eagles stadium (1-3).

The three points that their biggest rival for the title added prevented a total and absolute celebration from PSV Eindhoven.

Now, a draw against Sparta Rotterdam or a defeat by Feyenoord against Zwolle on the next day will definitively close a tournament in which Peter Bosz’s men have clearly been the dominant team.

PSV, virtual champion

PSV Eindhoven has a nine-point lead over Feyenoord with three games remaining. In the event of a tie on points, the overall goal difference will decide the name of the champion. In that aspect, PSV has an unattainable advantage over Feyenoord of 30 goals difference.

But to achieve that ‘virtual champion’ status, Bosz’s team had to win and they did not fail.

In just eleven minutes, with three almost consecutive goals, he finished the duel in front of a large number of his fans who came to Heerenveen to see his team’s victory.

With Guus Til’s goal and Malik Tillman’s double, PSV left no room for surprise and had fun surrounded by a festive and celebratory atmosphere.

Luuk de Jong, the Eredivisie’s top scorer, was not without his prize and scored his 27th goal of the season in the 71st minute. And Patrick van Aanholt, in the 83rd minute, closed a rout that equaled a NAC Breda 0-Ajax 8 in 2017, one of the largest away results in the history of the Dutch League.

In the end, 0-8 was a round score for PSV, which virtually has the title in its hands. Feyenoord, at most, if PSV loses all its games, could equal Bosz’s team on points.
