Daniel Alves has been in the media spotlight in recent days after it was sentenced to spend four and a half years in prison for having sexually abused a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona in 2022. Only in 2024 was the sentence handed down, but the Public Ministry wants a tougher hand on the former FC Barcelona player.

The former La Canarinha winger had been in preventive detention since January 2023. Now if the counting of his sentence begins, but the Public Ministry will still fight for a much stronger punishment for Dani Alves.

The Spanish organization requested that Dani Alves serve a sentence of nine years behind bars. However, the sentence ruled that the former soccer player would comply half of that requested time. In this sense, the Prosecutor’s Office will appeal the sentence imposed.

The arguments that will support this request are: the application of mitigating circumstances for “damage repair” to which Dani Alves had to respond as compensation.

What was Dani Alves’ sentence?

On February 22, the “punishments” that were imposed on the former Brazilian player for having been responsible for this case of sexual abuse were announced. In the first instance, and the sentence best known to everyone, The former UNAM Pumas player must spend four and a half years in prison.

“The court, which applies the mitigating factor of reparation for the damage, concludes that it has been proven that Alves suddenly grabbed the victim, threw her to the ground and, preventing her from moving, raped her, despite the fact that the complainant said no, that she wanted to leave“, was one of the descriptions presented at the hearing.

On the other hand, Dani Alves must also comply five years of probation, after concluding his time in prison. Furthermore, the former FC Barcelona player will have to abide by a restraining order on the victim for the next nine and a half years.

Finally, the Brazilian international had to make payment of compensation for the amount of €150,000 euros or the equivalent of $162,000 dollars.
