At 38 years old, the forward Dayro Moreno He became, with 225 goals, the all-time top scorer of the Colombian league with the goal he scored in the 89th minute and which marked the 1-2 victory for his team, Once Caldas, in their visit to Deportivo Independiente Medellín (DIM).

The attacker received the ball in the opponent’s field in a counterattack, held it and, in a small gap he found before entering the area, took a low shot that was impossible for goalkeeper Éder Chaux to stop.

The striker could not contain his tears and wildly celebrated the long-awaited score with which he surpassed the record of 224 goals held by Argentine Sergio Galván Rey.who like him is an idol of Once Caldas.

He just reached that record last weekend against Envigado.

His teammates gave him a Blanco Blanco shirt with the number 225 and the striker, who celebrated with the hundreds of team fans who traveled to Medellín for the game, put the garment over his face.

Moreno is also the top scorer in the current league with eight goals.

“This is the result of my 21-year football career,” the attacker told the Win Sports television channel after the match against DIM and added that he feels very proud to have achieved this achievement “with the team of my life.”

Goals galore

The forward, born on September 16, 1985 in Chicoral, in the department of Tolima, is a youth player for Once Caldas and made his debut in 2003.

With Blanco Blanco he became champion of the 2004 Copa Libertadores and even played 68 minutes of the second leg of the final against Boca Juniors.

In addition to that tournament, with the Manizales team he won the league titles in the 2003 Apertura Tournament and the 2011 Clausura.

His career in Colombia was also marked by his time with other teams such as Junior de Barranquilla, Millonarios, Atlético Bucaramanga and Atlético Nacional, a club with which he won the Apertura Tournament and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2017 and the Copa Colombia in 2018.

He achieved the record, to a large extent, because he has been the top scorer in the Colombian league on seven occasions: in the opening games of 2014, 2017 and 2022 and in the closing games of 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2017.

In addition to having played in his country, and having been international with the Colombian team, He played for Xolos de Tijuana of the MX LeagueSteaua Bucharest of Romania, Talleres of Argentina and Oriente Petrolero of Bolivia.

Total, Moreno has scored 331 goals in his career.
