It seems that the drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán He is not having a good time at the maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado.

And, in addition to serving a life sentence, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel He is subject to other restrictions within the prison, including not seeing his family.

That is why the capo submitted a new request to a New York court to allow him to receive visits from his daughters and his wife. Emma Coronel.

This was confirmed by Noticias Telemundo through a lawyer, noting that in the same request he also asks that the phone calls that his daughters made to him twice a month for 15 minutes be returned.

He claims it is retaliation

This request, as cited in a letter allegedly written by the drug trafficker in English, seeks to guarantee communication with his loved ones.

In the document, El Chapo states that contact with his daughters was interrupted since last May, which, according to him, is an attempt to have his case dismissed and believe they are retaliating.

Referring to the prosecutor in charge of her case, she wrote: “She was surely upset because in the pro se motion, I exposed the inefficiency of the lawyers who did not combat the anomalies of the prosecutors throughout the process.”

Guzmán Loera considers that said prohibition would be a form of “punishment” towards him, arguing that this would constitute a discriminatory action against him.

In response they have decided to punish me not letting me talk to my daughters. To this day they have not told me if they will no longer give me calls with my daughters… That is why I ask for your intervention, since it is unprecedented discrimination against me,” she said.

In August 2023, El Chapo had already asked the judge Brian Coganin charge of the trial against him, to allow him to see his wife and daughters. The American journalist Marta Dhanis announced the letter through her social networks on that occasion.

In the letter, Guzmán alleged that his daughters could only visit him under specific circumstances, such as on vacation.

As part of the restrictions inside the prison, Guzmán Loera spends 23 hours a day confined to his cell. During this time, she has no contact with other inmates and her only opportunity to sunbathe is for one hour daily.
