Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin will meet this September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Mexican and the Kazakh will share a ring for the third time in their careers. As expected, both fighters they would start with their media duel during all the days of combat preparation, but Golovkin left the Tapatio very badly by not falling into his game.
Saúl Álvarez has made strong statements about Gennady Golovkin. Insults and contempt have been the Guadalajaran’s weapons to hurt the pride of his rival. Canelo has ensured that this fight enters the personal planea totally different case from the Kazakh conception.
“To me, it’s just another fight, although with an outstanding boxer and a very interesting boxer. It’s going to be an interesting fight, but again, nothing personal. Let’s take my opponent against Dmitry Bivol, there was nothing personal in that fight, it was just boxing”, Golovkin sentenced in an interview for The Fight by Teddy Atlas.
On the other hand, the Kazakh continued to question the way in which the Mexican has been “warming up” the fight with his derogatory comments towards him. Will Golovkin do the same? Nopethe veteran boxer was left as a “gentleman” by indicating that he will not lower himself to the height of the Mexican.
“Same here for me. It’s just business, just boxing. I see no reason to go into personal details about it., not worth it. Because of the way she has behaved (Canelo) for the last four years, I don’t want to descend to their level“, he assured.
Finally, Gennady Golovkin ended his speech with a metaphor in which he reaffirmed his position and not fall into a duel of words with Canelo Álvarez. “We have a saying that can be translated verbatim. A bee couldn’t explain to a fly that honey is better than shit. It’s just not worth trying to do that”, he concluded.
