This Wednesday the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, presented the “Zapotec Belt”, the commemorative and handmade scepter that will be taken to the winner of the closing of the trilogy between Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

The so-called “Warrior Jaguar Belt”, which was intervened by the Jacobo 8 María Ángeles Workshop of San Martín Tilcajete, is dHand-decorated with tribal shapes, characteristic of the Zapotec culture, with bright colors that stand out and flow throughout its shape.

In the center, surrounding the WBC symbol, are the claws of the jaguar, carved from cup wood and adorned with gold leaf. Labyrinths, the simulation of the rattlesnake and other details, complement the symbolism of this culture.

The work was done by the craftsman Jacobo Angeleswho accompanied Sulaimán in the presentation to the media, where he mentioned that in its design and elaboration he sought to highlight an element: the claws, which for him symbolize the enormous warrior heart of Mexican boxers.

Canelo and Golovkin will face each other on September 17 in Las Vegas, in what will be the long-awaited closing of a trilogy that in previous editions sparked great controversy.
