Julian Nagelsmann will continue as coach of the German national team until the next World Cup in the United StatesCanada and Mexico in 2026, the German Football Federation (DFB) announced this Friday.

This was decided unanimously this Friday by the supervisory board and the shareholders’ meeting of the DFB, the federation reported in a statement.

Nagelsmann, 36, had initially signed in September last year until the end of Euro 2024. which is held in Germany and starts on June 14.

He added that the two victories against France and Holland in March were a “foreshadowing” of this and said he had been very moved by the enthusiasm of the fans.

“Now we want to play together in a successful European Championship at home, that’s what we all want. After that, I am looking forward to the challenge of a World Cup together with my technical team,” he indicated.

The president of the federation, Bernd Neuendorf, highlighted that “for the DFB and the national team it is an important signal that Julian Nagelsmann remains national coach beyond the Euro Cup at home, because after all, he is on the list of favorites of many great clubs throughout Europe.”

“But the national team is more than a job for Julian Nagelsmann, it is a real personal matter. “Now there is certainty in terms of planning and everyone can fully concentrate on a successful performance at the Euro,” he added.

Rudi Völler, who recently renewed his role as sports director of the senior men’s team until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, stressed that Nagelsmann had already convinced them with the “recent and successful international meetings.”

These matches have once again demonstrated “what enthusiasm Julian and his team can reawaken in Germany.”

He described Nagelsman as an “extraordinary coach” and “strategist” who “not only has great football knowledge, but is also capable of infecting and inspiring all the players with his passion.”

“He burns for the selection and for success. I am delighted that we continue this path together after the European Championship at home,” he added.
