José Ibarra, the migrant accused of the murder of student Laken Riley in Georgia, was recently accused of spying on a University of Georgia staff member in his apartment on the same day the young woman’s murder occurred.
Court documents obtained by Fox News indicated that Ibarra allegedly observed said person through the window of the apartment located in the University Village ‘S’ Housing Building of UGA.
The migrant lived in an apartment building on the edge of the campus park where Riley ran and allegedly murdered the aspiring nurse in what UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark described as a “crime of opportunity.” ”.
The incident occurred on the dirt trails of the University of Georgia campus in Athens on February 22.
A Georgia grand jury on Tuesday indicted Ibarra, a 26-year-old illegal Venezuelan migrant, on 10 counts.: murder with malicious intent, two counts of kidnapping with bodily injury, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to rape, two counts of aggravated assault, obstructing or hindering a person from making a 911 call, tampering with evidence and being a “ snoop”.
Ibarra is accused of causing Riley’s death by inflicting blunt force trauma to her head and “asphyxiating her in a manner unknown to jurors,” the indictment states.
The scenic loop Riley raced on that morning is easily accessible from behind Ibarra’s apartment complex.
The 26-year-old suspect crossed illegally into the United States through El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released into the United States on parole, ICE and DHS sources previously told Fox News.
José and his brothers, Diego Ibarra, 29 years old; and Argenis Ibarra, 24, lived together in the same apartment. The three men were questioned and detained after Riley’s murder.
Argenis and Diego first entered the United States on April 3, 2023, near Eagle Pass, Texas, and were deported the same day. They were arrested again on April 30 after crossing illegally into the United States near El Paso, Texas. They were later released and eventually traveled to Athens.
Diego Ibarra is accused of green card fraud and had ties to a well-known Venezuelan gang in the United States, according to federal court documents.
Furthermore, allegedly Diego Ibarra has ties to the violent organized crime gang Tren de Aragua, originally from Venezuelawhich is trying to establish itself in the United States, where the police already link it with organized crime.
Photographs of Diego Ibarra’s body, taken after his arrest on February 23, 2024, reveal that “He has a five-pointed crown tattooed on the left side of his neck and five-pointed stars on the right side.”according to the Prosecutor’s indictment.
These tattoos would be typical of the members of the organized crime group that was born in the Tocorón prison in Venezuela, and that was evicted by the Venezuelan authorities last September, according to the documents cited by CNN.
