America’s midfielder Jonathan dos Santos confirmed his retirement from the Mexico National Team and will focus all his batteries on the Águilas team, closing with this a cycle that included more than 50 games with the Aztec team, among them participation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia under the orders of the Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio.
Jonathan Dos Santos, brother of the outstanding forward Giovanni dos Santos, announced his decision this Thursday at the end of América’s training ahead of the commitment on date 16 vs. UNAM Pumas, next Saturday.

“I must be honest, now my priority is America and that’s how it will be from here until I retire. I cannot deny that the national team gave me a lot, but at this moment in my career, at 34 years old, I think the most opportune thing should be to give myself to America. “Both the president of the team and the board have shown me support, without having been playing for a year and a half, and that they renewed me again and that they trusted me,” he said in the mixed zone at the Coapa facilities.

“I honestly don’t know if I’ll make it to the World Cup, I don’t have it in my plans. I feel that in the National Team my position is more than covered and I do not want to cut off the process of young people, my priority is America and I am going to give everything for these colors,” he explained.
The American player played 57 games with the Mexican National Team and scored five goals, numbers with which he said he was satisfied with having defended the Aztec jersey and that it is time to give space to new generations.
