The princess Kate Middleton received a special tribute during the St. Patrick’s Day parade, despite not being able to attend the event due to his recovery from abdominal surgery.

The Irish Guards paid tribute to Middleton, 42, at the end of the parade at Mons Barracks in Hampshire, where they gave her three cheers in recognition of her role as honorary colonel of the regiment, according to various media reports.

The Princess of Wales has been a recurring figure in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, where she traditionally gave shamrocks to guards to pin on their uniforms.

This year, Lady Ghikawife of the regiment’s lieutenant colonel Sir Christopher Ghika, fulfilled that task.

Prince William was also not part of this year’s parade, marking the first time that the heir to the crown and his wife have missed the tradition they used to celebrate together.

Despite the absence of the royal couple, it was a memorable event, with a contingent of Irish Guards gathered for the first time in almost 12 months. The event featured music, marches and a lively lunch for the guards and their families.

“St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships that are so fundamental to the identity and spirit of our regiment.

We will raise a glass to those who cannot attend this year, especially those deployed to Africa and elsewhere,” said Commanding Officer James Aldridge.

In January, Kate Middleton underwent abdominal surgery and is expected to return to public duties after Easter.
